On 28 October 2016, Friday at 8.30pm I and my course mates had attended a concert which is Music of Your Life was presents by “The Canticle Singers” at Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) and this concert we go with a group which is 12 people.
Generally, the concert Music of Your Life was talk about “The Canticle Singers” with a choice selection of choral and individual hits from the genres of musicals, pop, lounge, rock and jazz. In this concert, the total has 18 songs to be present and they separate into two parts. Overall the concert was successfully and in all those songs there have happy, funny, and creative. One of the songs which I like the most out of the 18 song which is “Can you feel the love tonight”, this song is well-known among people but this song touched me much. “Can you feel the love tonight” is a song from Disney's 1994 animated film The Lion King composed by Elton John with lyrics by Tim Rice. It was described by Don Hahn (the film's producer), Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff (the film's directors) as having "the most diverse history" in the film. Besides that song the song that I like also which is the coffee (in a Cardboard Cup) this song has show that they are created to produce this song.
From this concert, I get to know how were they done their preparation before the performance was started. I think we are very lucky can enter the room to watch their preparation because normally the audience cannot enter to before the performance. That’s what I said we are very lucky and this is good opportunity to learn from them.
So before they start, they need to do some vocal warm up exercises like warm up their voice for at least 15-20 minutes, then rest it for half an hour then start to sing. This is very important as an acapella to do some vocal warm up exercise because it helps out when doing some warm up session. Because with vocal exercises help to reduce vocal damage and also help to recover from sleep, and help to maintain your voice. They had six vocal warm up exercise which is, they need to warm up session with “a” first, then exercise two is descending Octave with “e” sound, exercise three falsetto, exercise four which is falsetto to full voice, exercise five “A” vowel sound and exercise six is chest voice.
For the technical considerations their lighting, sound, the pianist and the stage management has been prepared well and they did their job accordingly to make sure everything was under control before the concert was started and we can see it all of the audience did enjoy their concert.
After attending this concert, I can apply this in my daily life and uni life. Thought this concert, I have learned that we need to corporate with each other and be humble while you are learning something no matter for group assignment or performance when we are one team together, we need to discuss and asking other people’s opinion to reduce conflict so that we can achieve our goal.
To apply in my daily life, I have learned from them is we need to learn how to be patient with each other because all the people from that concert came from different background, different lifestyle and different personality. So, this is a big challenge for them to accept and to corporate well with each other because you need to be very patient with people that you never saw he or she before. But during their rehearsal, I have see they were patient with others, like got a guy keeps teaching them how to pronounce and how to stand and this so surprised me because they have taught me whoever have done wrong something, you to need to be patient to teach and tell them where they have done wrong. Same goes to our life, sometimes life will not always be very nice and I believe that everyone will be facing a lot of problems in our life so we need to be patient to face it and solve it no matter how hard it is.
Going to this concert is worth because from this concert I have also learned about we need to corporate with different types of people and need to be open minded as well. A very clear example is vocal, it requires a lot of people and they need to work in a group to achieve the goal that they are targeted.
Just like in the group of “The Canticle Singers” there got one person who comes from other country and they mix with different races like Malay, Chinese, and people who come from the foreign country. This is also surprised me because in the “The Canticle Singers” group there have so many races and they still can corporate with each other very well and during the preparation, I never saw them are having a conflict or even argue. So after going this concert they have taught me to be more open minded because before attendant to this concert I am a girl who is quite a stereotype and doesn’t want to work with different races but attending to this concert I can be said it is worth to go at least one time in your life because you can learn a lot of valuable things that in uni you couldn’t learn it.
